"Ingredients are the soul and secret to beautifully hosting. They set the stage every time, so keep it simple and fresh. Look around the landscape and farmer’s markets, and look for local ingredients that can make your party beautiful."
Local ingredients are the soul and secret to hosting any event, large or small. I’ve learned that the perfect ingredients set the stage every time, and reflecting on ingredients got me thinking of all the places I have been blessed to cook.
From the glorious Pacific Northwest of Vancouver or Seattle with markets full of seafood and shellfish popping from the rugged Pacific Ocean, to the central coast of California picking soft red fruits in perfect season, down to the windswept plains of the Midwest of America where the best beef roams through grass taller than their shoulders, local ingredients show each city’s unique personality.
Look around the landscape, look in your own backyard and farmer’s markets and look for local ingredients so you can host beautifully. Just like the ingredients of a chalice of Stella Artois, the moment will be magical if you keep it simple and fresh. But look for adventure in unexpected places—these days, this wild global ride can wind up running straight to your backdoor!
