"Don a special outfit, splash on your favorite cologne and serve drinks in your most elegant glassware—these special finishing touches can make all the difference at a soirée."
I remember when I was about 6 or 7, what seemed like a normal night could instantly be altered by a quick finishing touch. The atmosphere of an evening changed completely with a whiff of my mother’s favorite perfume. That single scent told me that tonight was going to be special, that my mom and dad were either going to a party or they were going to host their own.
Planning a party can be a task. It’s always worth the effort, but there’s definitely a lot of effort involved. There’s an enormous amount of build up: the food, the drinks, the entertainment, the invitation list, all important factors. And what people often forget are the finishing touches. They focus on the large tasks at hand and forget the finishing details that help put the real zest of life into the party.
Some people have a signature scent, which is great, but it’s a little monogamous for me. I have a caché of scents that I like to wear based on the occasion. If it’s a party in the evening, I love something dark and smoky, a scent that will hold the curiosity of my best friend or my new friend. If it’s an afternoon garden party, something bright and floral—and a little tangy—fits my mood. And heaven forbid it’s an office party, something masculine and effective signals that we’re here for serious fun.
Whatever the occasion, if you’re going to or hosting an event, don’t forget the finishing touches. Something as simple as a spray of perfume or cologne, can leave a lasting impression on your hosts, guests, and friends.
