What We’re Doing
t Stella Artois we are doing a number of small things which we hope will make for a Better World, both socially and
ecologically. We’d like to share a few of them with you.
Live from 1963
Florence and The Machine, Le Recyclage Deluxe Show
ive from 1963. Welcome to the first eco-chic show on Le Toube. Join host Alain du Monde as he declares his love for
Mother Nature and welcomes a gaggle of chic guests who also live green. A really fashionable, flattering shade of green.
The Hedge Fund
e love hedges. Not only are they home to a lot of threatened species, they’re also very important to farming. And with 506,000 miles of hedgerow in the UK, they’re easily our largest nature reserve.
But hedges are in decline. Which is where the Hedge Fund comes in.
Over the next two years we’ll be funding over
365,000 hedge saplings, and 8650 tree saplings, to be planted in the British countryside. As well as offsetting some of our carbon emissions, hedgerows are one of the earth’s most biodiverse habitats, home to hundreds of species of insects, rodents and microorganisms. It might take a while for the hedgerows to reach their full impact, but it’s a start.

Our Emissions Mission
o keep track of and help manage our AB InBev emissions, we’ve become part of the Carbon Disclosure Project, an effort to detail corporation’s carbon impacts and their strategies to manage them. By the end of 2010, we aim to reduce our energy use and CO2 emissions by 10% per hectolitre. Because we make beer by the hectolitre, we thought that would be a good way to measure our progress.
Offsetting is a positive start
Water Conservation
ater is a key ingredient in making our beer and we will continue to find ways to reduce our water use in brewing our Stella Artois. Our global business has set
a strong target for 2010 to reduce our water usage to 3.75 hl/hl (hectolitre) – which is ahead of the United Nations best practice of 5 hl/hl of beer production.

Recyclage and Waste
educing, recycling and proper waste disposal are a key part of our global business strategy. At Stella Artois, we're trying to lead by example through our Recyclage-Deluxe campaign but also by
doing our best within our own operations to ensure we’re producing as little waste as possible and recycling what waste we do produce.
Certified Compostable
Recyclage-Deluxe - Certified Compostable
t’s true – it’s not easy being green. But at Stella Artois, we’ve been working hard to make our packaging even easier to recycle.
As part of an industrial recycling scheme, you can now throw your Stella Artois standard cardboard packaging into the food waste collection bin along with your garden and food waste - safe in the knowledge that it won’t release lots of strange substances into the nice compost that will be harmful to the environment.
Just remember to check with your collection service before putting cardboard in your garden or food waste, as it’s not accepted everywhere quite yet.
This is all in accordance with European Standards under registration number 7P0293 (Din Certco). Unfortunately, this currently applies to standard design packs only and excludes our promotional packs. But don’t worry – we’re working on that.
Aluminium
Recyclage-Deluxe - Aluminium
luminium’s a tricky substance. We love it because it’s lightweight (keeping down the environmental effect of transport), because it can be recycled an infinite number of times, and is tough enough to protect your Stella Artois from
brewery to fridge until you can pour it in a Chalice glass to enjoy. We use, on average, 50% recycled aluminium in our cans, and we’re trying to increase this figure. Please recycle your cans to help us.
Glass
Recyclage-Deluxe - Glass
hat about our bottles? They’re made from, on average, 75% recycled glass, above the industry standard of 71%. Two of our three Stella Artois bottles are
already the lightest in class, and we’ll lightweight the third by 2010. Again, every recycled bottle helps the environment.
Paper
Recyclage-Deluxe - Paper
s for paper, the industry average for recycled content is around 76%. Our paper and cardboard point of sales material
is made from 100% recycled paper.. Our corrugated packs are also made from 100% recycled material.
